Salish-Intentional Community

Our intentional community will provide a healthy environment that promotes resilient indigenous families. We will instill a sound sense of purpose, and nurture children in Salish culture and traditions.

Living in Ceremony ~ A Healing Place
Based on the Salish Medicine Wheel, Snqʷeyɫmistn will build our community similar to a traditional Salish encampment. We will have a central longhouse (a place for prayer and ceremony) with the main houses circling around it, the outer circle will be for support staff housing. With spirituality as a foundation, we will balance our physical, emotional, social, and mental health. Our employees, children, programs, and the organization as a whole will embrace traditional Salish lifeways and core values.
We have devised a plan of development with three phases that will build a strong and sustainable organization utilizing the guidance of Salish and Pend d'Oreille elders and experienced professionals.

Our community will operate with collective principles, stressing the importance of relationship, interdependence, and harmony. We will work in unison, as a team. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." ~African Proverb

Our education system will draw upon the traditional values of teaching while incorporating contemporary trauma-informed methods, using community and culture as treatment, and acknowledging various learning styles.
